Wedding Program Design Tips

September 1, 2019 | Posted in Trends, Weddings

Your wedding program gives your guests a rundown of how the ceremony will proceed. However, they also serve as a great keepsake of your special day. You’ll want to pay attention to both the aesthetics and details to create the perfect program. Below, we’ve put together some tips to help you out.

Flow With the Theme

When it comes to choosing a design for your program stick with the theme of your wedding day. You can choose to use colored prints, colored paper, or add small colored details throughout to match the color scheme for your wedding. You can also take things up a notch and add details that flow with the theme like having a program folded into origami for an oriental themed wedding or printing the programs in the shape of a fan for a summer wedding.

Choose Your Fonts Carefully

Don’t get so caught up in the fancy font choices that you overlook readability. Your guests need to be able to read the program, so steer clear of fonts that would require a lot of squinting or guessing to figure out what it says. If you want to use fancier fonts, use darker colors and larger font sizes to make it easier to read.

Highlight Order of Events

The whole point of a wedding program is for your guests to be able to see what’s happening and when. Don’t make the mistake of allowing everything to blend in together by keeping everything the same font type, size, and color. Highlight the order of events by either making them bolder or lighter than the rest of the information on your program. You can also make them different colors so it’s easy to see when skimming through.

Order Plenty

After you’ve gone over the design and layout of your wedding program it’s time to place your order. Whether working with a wedding planner, making your own, or ordering programs online, be sure that you have enough. You’ll need a program for all of your guests, your bridal party, and extras that you may want to save for later or hand out to those who couldn’t be in attendance. It’s always better to have more than you need.

Your wedding programs should not only be beautiful, but they should tie in with the theme and provide the guests with all the details of the upcoming ceremony and reception. Hopefully, these design tips have given you some ideas on how to create programs you’ll love.
